Why do you think standards are important?
International standards are generated by many knowledgeable individuals and are written in a way to guide organizations to perform in both a proficient and wise manner. Accepted processes and practices noted in standards help to lead companies to success and growth. An example of an important standard is ISO 13485:2003, which helps organizations involved in medical product manufacturing to avoid mistakes which could be hazardous to those who use the products. This standard also leads those who adhere to it to practice risk management in consistent manners and to adhere to FDA and other legal regulations.
Why did you choose to pursue a standards-related profession and/or get involved in Technical Advisory Group Membership?
Throughout my career, there have been many who shared their experiences and helped me to grow as a technical expert. I believe by sharing what I know can help others to avoid problems and can promote improvement in quality for all of us.
What’s your best advice to someone new to standards?
Read, read, read; the standards, related training books, quick guides and internet materials. You must familiarize yourself with the standards to be comfortable with them.
What other interests or hobbies do you have?
When I’m not in the workplace, the thing I enjoy most of all is spending time with my amazing wife. I also enjoy organic gardening, as well as fishing.
